2,289,287 was the number of international visitors coming to Vietnam in the first six months of 2008, up by 8.1 per cent year on year, according to the General Department of Tourism.
The agency also noted that, of the number, 1,405,897 were tourists (up by 6.0 per cent); travellers arriving by Air rose 6.5 per cent and those by road – 21.6 per cent.
Apart from potential markets like China and Japan, the number of tourists from Singapore, Thailand, Sweden and Finland also saw sharp increases of 29.8 per cent, 52.9, 26.3 and 59.3, respectively.
The number of domestic and international visitors going to Ho chi minh city alone in the first half stood at 1.5 million, said Ms Dong Thi Kim Vui, Director of the city’s Tourism Department, at a news conference on the Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Expo 2008 on June 30.
