The Ho chi minh city tourism sector plans to develop its human resources in tourism to meet increasing demands of the industry.
From now to the end of this year, many short-term and long-term training courses on tourism will be launched for people working in the industry, said Dong Thi Kim Vui, director of the city’s Tourism Department.
“There is a serious shortage of human resources in the the city’s tourism sector, we must find ways to tackle this problem,” said Mrs Vui.
The department will also conduct a survey to work out plans to develop human resources in the period of 2008 to 2015.
According to a survey taken in 2005, the city received about 2 million visitors while there were only 24,000 tourism workers.
The city’s sector develops strongly at a rate of 12% to 15% every year and the growth of human resources in the industry is only about 3.5%.
In the coming time, the department will become a bridge linking universities and businesses to Train tourism workers. It will also team up with foreign travel agencies and organisations to open training courses and present scholarships to local workers.
