Around 100 paintings by disadvantaged children are on display at the 10th annual charity painting exhibition held by Hcm City’s Hotel equatorial
Stream of Dream by 15-year-old The Bao and Cat&Fish by eight-year-old Gia Thuan, students of the Anh Minh School for Deaf Children, are among visitors’ favourites.
"The children’s paintings are so interesting," a visitor said. "They are full of power. Colours and shapes can help disadvantaged children say what they can’t otherwise verbalise.
The paintings are being displayed at the hotel’s lobby till 20 June, and all proceeds from their sales will be donated to five disadvantaged children’s schools.
This year, the organisers have sought the backing of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, some non-profit organisations, HTV7 and HTV9 (HCM City Television), and the Hcm city Disadvantaged Children Education Centre.
Nguyen Hoang Thinh Tri, a teacher at a school for disadvantaged children, said: "Thanks to the annual Children’s Painting Exhibition by Hotel equatorial a lot of disadvantaged children can gradually integrate into society and are no longer a burden to their family and society."
Held annually to mark International Children’s Day, June 1, the exhibition seeks to help children with disabilities and street and poor children. — VNS
