Saigontourist, Caravelle named best tour operator, hotel - Caravelle Hotel in HCMC

The Vietnam Tourism Association has selected Saigontourist Travel Service Co. and the five-star Caravelle hotel in HCMC as the best international tour operator and the best hotel in the country in 2007.

According to the association, HCMC last year triumphed over other localities across the country with 12 entities on the top-ten lists, or an increase of one over the 2006 lists. The association will hold an award ceremony in Hanoi on July 5 to hand out the awards.

Once again, Saigontourist ranks first on the list of top ten international tour operators in the country, the third straight year the company won the top position. The company is followed by Exotissimo-Cesais and Apex Vietnam in HCMC, Vietnamtourism and Ho Guom - Diethelm in Hanoi, Ben Thanh Tourist, Fiditourist, and Peace Tour in HCMC, Huong Giang Travel in Thua Thien-Hue, and A Dong in HCMC.

The winning tour operator list has a new face; that is Exotissimo-Cesais. Meanwhile, the city-based Vietravel winning the 2006 honor has fallen out of the new list.

As for the top-ten hotels in 2007, the five-star Caravelle hotel ranks first on the list from the fourth position in the 2006 list. It is foIlowed by the Melia hanoi Sofitel plaza hanoi Rex in HCMC, Majestic in HCMC, De Nhat (First) in HCMC, Nikko hanoi Sofitel Metropole in Hanoi, Grand in HCMC, and Ana mandara Nha trang

The list of top ten hotels in 2007 also sees a change, with the Furama Danang resort left out, and the Grand hotel being the new face.

According to the selection criteria of the association, the international tour operators have been chosen on business result, and other sub-criteria including community activities.

Saigontourist Travel Service Co. last year welcomed 198,600 tourists, of them around 105,200 being local and outbound tourists, up 20% compared to 2006, and 93,400 international tourists, up 53% year-on-year. The company's revenue last year was VND655 billion, up 38% compared to 2006.

The three- to five-star hotels are selected on criteria such as profit, room occupancy, safety for guests, and community activities. The Caravelle Hotel's room occupancy in 2007 was around 75%.

Together with the official selection, the association in collaboration with the website: http://www.vietnamtourism.com.vn are carrying out another survey for travelers to select top ten hotels with impressive services, and top ten trusted tour operators.

From the survey, the organizers will select the best hotel and the best tour operator, which will also be awarded with second-grade prizes at the ceremony in Hanoi next week.
