Forty contestants will vie for the crown of Miss Vietnam Tourism at Phan Dinh Phung Sports House in Hcm city on August 2.
The prize for Miss Vietnam Tourism 2008 is VND100 million (cash and an English study scholarship) and a tour to Europe.
Besides the beauty queen and two runner-ups, the organisers will present other titles like Best in Photo, Best Speaker, Best in Ao dai, Best Body and the audience’s prize.
On the final night, contestants will join three competitions: night gown, ao dai and swimwear. They will also have to answer questions about Vietnam’s tourism.
Members of the jury are Vice Head of the Performing Art Agency Nguyen Van Khanh, Director of Caravelle hotel Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Director of the Tourism Faculty of HCM City-based Hong Bang University Nguyen Minh Man, fashion designer Sy Hoang and journalist Cat Vu.
Kicked off in March 2008, the pageant’s qualifier rounds were held in the Mekong Delta city of Can tho HCM City, Da nang Quang Ninh and Hanoi to choose 40 competitors for the finals.
The final night will be broadcast live on HTV9 channel of the HCM City Television Station. Tickets are priced at three levels: VND200,000, VND400,000 and VND600,000.
The pageant will become an annual event, jointly held by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Asia Studio, Saigontourist and Vietnam airlines
Chief organiser of the contest, Truong Hoang Hai, said the winner will represent Vietnam at the Miss Tourism Queen International 2009, which could possibly be held in Vietnam.
However, Elite Vietnam affirmed that only it has the right to choose Vietnamese representatives to send to Miss Tourism Queen International and it doesn’t cooperate with organisers of Miss Vietnam Tourism pageant.
