The municipal Tourism Department and the Tourism Association will co-ordinate with domestic Airlines to conduct programmes on the country’s history and traditional culture for viewers and travellers abroad, and create opportunities for local tourism companies to participate in international tourism fairs and forums.
Tourism promotions will be held in large cities across the country including Hanoi Hai phong Da nang Hue Da lat Nha trang and Can tho as a move to attract more local visitors to Hcm city which is home to historical sites and worth visiting architectural works like the Cu Chi tunnels, Thong Nhat Palace, Duc Ba Church and Giac Lam Pagoda.
Besides perfecting the quality of existing tourism facilities, the city will develop new tourism combination packages, which will feature visiting attractions and also state-of-the-art medical check-ups and spa and traditional treatments.
In the first half of 2008, HCM City welcomed close to 1.5 million foreign tourists, a year-on-year rise of 16 per cent. Tourism revenue generated VND14.6 trillion ($913 million), up 40 per cent from last year’s corresponding period.
