Nhat Thong restaurant

A pearl of the orient

When you arrive at Nhat Thong restaurant on Tong Dan street in Hanoi the doors swing open as if they have been expecting you. As step inside a waitress clad in a golden ao dai greets us with a wide smile before guiding us to our table through the resplendent surroundings.

This three-storey restaurant is wonderfully decorated and well-aired. It’s a relief just to be here away from the intense city heat. The decor seems typically 21st century Vietnamese with a nice balance of both modern and tradition styles.

The general concept of Nhat Thong is to offer modern conference facilities with authentic Asian cuisine in the heart of the city. The Pan-Asian menu offers a wide range of Vietnamese staples and specialties as well as Chinese, Thai and Japanese fare.

You can tuck into sushi, sashimi, fresh oysters or salted fish at the Japanese corner on the ground floor. Seafood is displayed separately with mussels, clams, lobster, shark’s fin, eel and so much more. The Raw lobster and vegetables, Barbecued mussels and Shark’s fin soup come highly recommended.

You can tuck into the buffet, select one of the very reasonably priced set menus or choose dishes à la carte. There is a bar and buffet on the ground floor, while on the first floor you will find 20 VIP street-view rooms, which are perfect for business lunches or dinners as well as intimate gatherings.

On the second floor there is large 200-seat room which can cater for large meetings, conference and wedding parties. There are even a few karaoke rooms with high-fidelity sound system, should the party continue after dinner. “This is the third restaurant of Nhat Thong Group in Hanoi

We have two older ones at 14 Thi Sach and 182 Vong street. We want to turn Nhat Thong Restaurants into an international centre for conferences and authentic cuisine,” says Nguyen Minh Thao, the manager of Nhat Thong restaurant. A special promotion offers 10 per cent discount off all food and drink as well as a present on guests’ birthdays.
