The first National Magician Festival wrapped up on May 17, but no gold medal was awarded to participants after four days of competition.
Three silver medals were won by Tran Dinh and Minh Tam from Ho chi minh city Magic and Circus Club, and Tran Ngoc Talor from the Binh Thuan Art Troupe.
Four bronze medals went to Huynh Van Nghiem from HCM City, Tuan Phuong from Hanoi Le Huu Binh from Border Guard Art Troupe and Minh Tuan from Quang Tri Art Troupe.
According to the jury, performances by magicians at the festival are attractive and presented a combination of modern and traditional styles. However, there is a repetition of some performances such as magic tricks with pigeons, using handkerchiefs, and cutting and rearranging changing people in a box.
Many in the audience said they were impressed by a special performance called “Flying man” by magician Huynh Van Nghiem and another by illusionist Tuan Phuong who turned one object into four.
The festival, organised by the Vietnam Circus Association, has aimed to help Vietnamese artists improve their professional skills.
